Systemic lupus erythematosus is a complex, incurable disease and chronic condition. It can affect most body systems. This chronic, inflammatory disease develops when the body’s immune system, which normally protects against such foreign antigens as viruses and bacteria, mistakenly begins producing antibodies against a person’s own cells and systems. These autoantibodies react with the antigens to form immune complexes that can build up in various parts of the body, causing inflammation, pain, and injury to tissues. This course will provide the chiropractor with an overview of the basic aspects of this disease.
