Practice-based Research Network: The Influence of Chiropractic Distraction Spinal Manipulation on Balance in Patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
By: American Chiropractic Association

Course Description

In a study on practice-based research networks PBRNs in the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, they concluded, "Ensuring the successful development and conduct of clinical trials in PBRNs requires a highly collaborative approach between academic research and PBRN teams." This session will outline the process of developing and implementing a study using a PBRN. A step by step approach will be outlined, emphasizing the balance between the researcher's needs and the practicality of implementing the protocols into an office setting. Points will be discussed, utilizing examples from a present ongoing study being developed on the chiropractic treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis and its effects on balance and fall risk. Learning Objectives: 1. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of clinic-based research- the current research. 2. Discuss how to develop a collaboration between academic researchers and private practices. 3. Appraise two examples of PBRNs and the study of chiropractic treatment of post-surgical continued pain from this practitioner's experience.
