Course Description

It is well documented the clinician’s communication skills influence the patent’s clinical outcome and this contributes to the notion that provider-patient communication is a core clinical competency.

This lecture will focus on this aspect of the clinician-patient relationship with an emphasis on the role verbal/nonverbal ques play and the ethical principles that must be considered during the encounter.

In addition, it will discuss the role communication has on a caring for a multicultural patient population. Finally, the lecture will provide the clinician with an introduction to an evidence-based communication technique that can guide the patient toward health and wellbeing.
