Overview of Safety of Chiropractic for Older Patients

Course Description

The session will focus primarily on the data that supports the safety of spinal manipulative therapy in the older adult, including strategies for dealing with the frail and osteoporotic patient. We will discuss data from our work in a nursing home, as well as from our clinical trials and discuss potential alternative strategies in older adults, including the use of acupuncture.


Learning Objectives:

1. Identify important components of informed consent in older adults

2. Identify alternative approaches to employing spinal manipulative therapy in older adults with risk factors including osteoporosis and anticoagulation therapy.

3. Participants will be able to identify potential combinations of therapies such as acupuncture and psychosocial therapies with manual therapy.
