Many medical professions have begun to focus their approach to their patients in a more holistic
way that sees each unique individual and how they independently interact with their environment
as it relates to the roles with which they identify. Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, Occupational
and Physical Therapists all have started to heavily trend in that direction. Not only do these
approaches include everyday tasks such as dressing, eating, taking showers and basic
communication, they also include addressing engagement in leisure activities and hobbies. The
American Occupational Therapy Association stated in their vison 2025 that “As an inclusive
profession, occupational therapy maximizes health, well-being, and quality of life for all people,
populations, and communities through effective solutions that facilitate participation in everyday
living.” This vision empowers therapists to be influential in changing policies, environments,
and complex systems such as the technology industry.
