Course Description

By the end of this course, the student should be able to identify Decompression Illness, Oxygen Toxicity and understand the CMS-approved indications where Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has proven useful along with the most common off-label indications where HBOT application is appropriate. Students will also master the hyperbaric mechanisms of action and understand the application of HBOT for other off-label indications. Additionally, the student shall determine proper course of action given a particular symptom which improves overall patient outcomes and decreases the professional practice gaps identified for this activity. Students should also be able to identify the proper controlling actions for recompression chamber emergencies and discuss other illnesses which can be treated in a chamber along with protocols used for HBOT.
