Learn massage techniques and modifications for the older patient, as well as special concerns, assessments, cautions, contraindications, age-related health problems and more.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this class, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of aging.
  • Discuss client assessment, cautions and contraindications, psychological aspects of contact with the elderly, attention to detail in the assessment of the older client.
  • Demonstrate modification standard massage techniques and discuss the development of methods to suit each client’s special needs.
  • Explain how to deal with specific age-related health problems, such as diabetes, artificial joints, osteoporosis, kyphosis, swellings and edema, stroke recovery, peripheral vascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s syndrome.
