Course Description

Course Objectives:

Learn massage techniques and modifications for the older patient, as well as special concerns, assessments, cautions, contraindications, age-related health problems and more. Includes hands-on practice work.

Course Outline:

Discuss physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of aging.

Discuss client assessment, cautions and contraindications, psychological aspects of contact with the elderly, attention to detail in the assessment of the older client.

Demonstrate modification standard massage techniques and discuss the development of methods to suit each client’s special needs.

Learn how to deal with specific age related health problems, such as diabetes, artificial joints, osteoporosis, kyphosis, swellings and edema, stroke recovery, peripheral vascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s syndrome.

Practice hands-on work.
