Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces the concept of functional taping methods to improve the movement and performance of patients and clients. It includes a review of current literature supporting the theories of kinesiology taping for enhancement of rehabilitation or performance outcomes such as edema/swelling management, neurologic conditions of pain and nerve entrapment, scar mobility and postural control. FMT Basic is an evidence-informed kinesiology taping course that redefines our understanding of the effects of elastic therapeutic taping on pain mitigation, circulation and proprioception. FMT Basic lays the groundwork for a practical framework of ‘taping movement, not muscles’ to replace an outdated model focused on directional taping, prescribed tape stretch percentages and activation or inhibition of muscles.

This course is intended for medical and performance professionals with all levels of taping experience. All supplies needed for the course lab experiences are provided.

Functional Movement Training (FMT) Certification courses are taught by industry leading experts in rehabilitation and performance specialties.

Educational Objectives of FMT Basic:

At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to:

1. Define and discuss the physiological effects of kinesiology taping

2. Demonstrate and apply functional taping techniques as they apply to pain, edema management, neurologic conditions, scar and posture improvement.

3. Demonstrate and discuss the concepts of longitudinal fascial chain kinesiology taping.

4. Understand and differentiate fluid dynamics taping applications for acute edema and chronic fluid dysfunction conditions using the jellyfish taping method.

5. Discover and experiment with varied tape application techniques for common musculo-skeletal injury conditions such as low back pain, shoulder strains, ankle sprains and post-operative patient/client care.

6. Demonstrate and apply posture taping applications for correction of common chronic postural deficits of the upper and lower spine regions.
