Fall Prevention – Improving Balance, Strength and Flexibility in Older Adults
By: American Chiropractic Association

Course Description

Older adults are the fastest growing population in the United States. Falls are a major public health concern in older adults, and the leading cause of injury-related death in this age group. Chiropractors are well-suited by their training and expertise to assess fall risk in older adults and implement evidence-based fall prevention strategies. In this session, Dr. Lisa Killinger, DC, will examine the issue of fall prevention in older adults. She will explore why older patients fall and review evidence-based assessment tools related to fall risk. Strategies to improve several of the key causes of falls will be shared. Simple steps will be discussed to improve the balance, strength and flexibility of older adult patients, while not ignoring the role posture plays in falls as well.
