Chiropractic Management of Pregnant & Pediatric Patients
By: National University of Health Sciences

Course Description

Overview:

The purpose of this lecture and hands-on workshop is to provide clinical insight into treating pregnant and pediatric patients as a chiropractor. The lecture and workshop will provide attendees with a basic understanding of contraindications to care, management of common conditions, adjustive techniques, nutritional recommendations, and rehab exercises used in these special populations.

Prerequisites: It is recommended that participants have prior introduction to Motion Palpation (MPI) technique for palpation of the pelvis, lumbar, and thoracic spine as well as MPI sideline kick-pull and sideline drop adjustments. This course will focus on the application and modification of Motion Palpation techniques to the pregnant and pediatric populations. Examples of previous experience include having previously attended an MPI seminar, consistent attendance at Motion Palpation club for at least 1 semester/trimester, or having been taught Motion Palpation techniques through institutional study (i.e. NUHS). If you have any questions as to whether or not you qualify, please send a brief summary of experience to drerikamennerick@gmail.com for approval.

Objective:

By the end of the lecture, attendees will be able to:

• Identify red flags, contraindications, and reasons for referral in pediatric and pregnant patients

• Apply modifications to adjusting and rehab techniques to accommodate pregnant, post-partum, and pediatric patients

• Make basic nutritional recommendations for pediatric and pregnant patients

• Appreciate the role chiropractic physicians play in the treatment of pregnant, post-partum, and pediatric patients
