Chiropractic Evaluation and Management of Common Pediatric Sports Injuries

Course Description

This two-hour presentation will discuss evaluation, management and treatment of common sports injuries in the elementary and middle school pediatric population. Evaluation will involve a thorough and detailed history, exam and differential diagnosis of common conditions. Management will focus on chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue treatment and taping/bracing. Additional discussion will involve red flags, referral and co-management.


Learning Objectives:

● Understand how to evaluate common sports injuries in the elementary/middle school age pediatric population

● Understand how to create a management plan for pediatric sports injuries including treatment recommendations, imaging and co-management

● Be able to perform common extremity adjustments, soft tissue treatment and taping of common pediatric sports injuries

II. Upper Extremity Common Sports Injuries 45 Minutes

A. FOOSH (Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist)

B. History, Exam, Ddx, Red Flags, imaging, management, co-management

C. Adjustments, soft tissue treatment, taping

III. Lower Extremity Common Sports Injuries 45 Minutes

A. Hip, (Trauma/lateral/Hyperextension) Knee, Ankle sprain

B. History, Exam, Ddx, Red Flags, imaging, management, co-management

C. Adjustments, soft tissue treatment, taping

IV. Conclusion and Summary 15 Minutes

A. Congenital/developmental pediatric conditions that mimic above injuries

B. Summary of other conditions not covered today
