Course Description

M1-Basic Training Agenda Check-in and distribution of materials begin 15 minutes prior to the start time listed. Day One 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. 7.5 hours Hour 1 Participants will identify & discuss the effects, benefits, physiological responses, indications & contraindications for the Graston Technique®. Welcome and introduction to technique History, physiological rationale of IASTM, principles relating to soft-tissue dysfunction Indications & contraindications Anticipated responses and results from using GT instruments on soft-tissue conditions Hour 2 Participants will observe & then demonstrate proper handholds and treatment strokes using GT instruments. Introduction to the six GT stainless steel instruments Description of each instrument Proper handholds and treatment strokes Lab instruction in scanning, sweeping, strumming, brushing, swiveling, scooping, j-strokes and framing on anterior thigh How to make a soft-tissue assessment using the GT scanner Hour 2 - 2.25 | Mid-Morning Break Hour 2.25 - 3.5 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate GT techniques scan, sweep, strum, swivel, scoop, frame, brush and j-stroke on knee and thigh. Thigh and Knee Labs Scan, sweep, strum, frame and j-stroke the thigh and knee Detect soft-tissue adhesions in these areas Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 3.5 - 4.5 | Lunch Hour 4.5 - 6 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate GT techniques scan, sweep, strum, swivel, scoop, frame, brush and j-stroke on pelvic region. Hip, Pelvis and ITB Labs Scan, sweep, strum, frame and j-stroke the pelvic region Detect soft-tissue adhesions in these areas Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 6 - 7.5 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate techniques on foot and ankle. Foot and Ankle Labs: Scan, sweep, strum and j-stroke on the foot and ankle Detect soft-tissue adhesions in these areas Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 7.5 - 8 Participants will discuss & observe techniques and treatment protocol on edema and scars. Edema and Scars / Course Wrap-up: Scan, sweep, strum and j-stroke Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 8 – 8.5 Participants will identify & discuss concepts of evidence-based practice as related to GT research. Evidence-based practice GT research Day Two 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. 4.5 hours Hour 8.5 - 9 Participants will identify & discuss concepts of clinical practice integration, updated GT research, documentation & billing concerns. GT & clinical integration Documentation Billing Hour 9 - 10.25 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate techniques on hand, forearm and elbow. Hand, Forearm and Elbow Labs Scan, sweep, strum and j-stroke the hand, forearm and elbow Detect soft-tissue adhesions in these areas Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 10.25 - 10.5 | Mid-Morning Break Hours 10.5 - 12 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate techniques on the shoulder. Shoulder Labs Scan, sweep, strum and j-stroke on the shoulder Detect soft-tissue adhesions in this area Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 12 – 13.25 Participants will select proper instrument and demonstrate techniques on the cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spines. Cervical and ThoracoLumbar Labs: Scan, sweep, strum and j-stroke on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines Detect soft-tissue adhesions in these areas Discuss proper instrument choice Demonstrate treatment protocol Hour 13.25 - 13.5 Participants will identify resources available after leaving this course.
