CCSP: Correlative Case Studies in Sports Chiropractic

Course Description

This 12-hour course will provide Doctors of Chiropractic with current didactic information and practical skills psychomotor learning relating to the evaluation, recognition, and management of sports related concerns for the doctor of chiropractic who provides services in the sporting environment or athlete care in the clinical setting. The reality that there are nuances and large bodies of knowledge required for the correct evaluation and management of athletes of all physical abilities and ages requires additional training and education to meet today’s standards of care. This course will increase the competency of the learner. This course builds upon the learner’s prior experiences and knowledge to best identify correct care pathways utilized in sports medicine. The learners will use higher level synthesis to identify and correctly manage several cases using a case based presentation, where the instructor leads small groups of learners through cases studies that require the assimilation of separate areas of knowledges and skills to correctly manage the ill or injured athlete. The course emphasizes collaboration and utilizes the case studies and hands-on-learning to increase the competency of the learner regarding encountered conditions in the athletic population. Specific topics include special populations in sport, injury and concussion, shoulder instability, knee trauma, ankle sprain, compartment syndromes, hip injuries, elbow tendinopathies, wrist and hand injuries.
