Evaluation and Management of the Lower Extremities

    This 12.5 hour course will provide Doctors of Chiropractic with current information and practical skills relating to evaluation and management of chiropractic care for the lower extremity in an athletic population. The course emphasizes and utilizes case studies and hands-on-learning techniques. A case based approach integrates the skills of medical history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies, and patient management for each pathology discussed.

    Learner Outcomes

    • Recognize the pathomechanics and perform clinical examination of femoroacetabular impingement
    • Identify risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament
    • Become familiar with rehabilitation of knee ligament injury
    • Create a management plan for chronic ankle instability and high ankle sprain
    • Recognize appropriate care pathways for the spectrum of tendinopathy from tendonitis to tendinosis
    • Understand the clinical evaluation, imaging and return to play concerns for stress fracture of the lower extremity
    • Apply clinical gait analysis into the management of running injury

    About the InstructorGregory A. Bauer, D.C.,D.A.C.B.P., C.S.C.S. – Dr. Bauer is a sports trained Doctor of Chiropractic, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and an Exercise Physiologist. Dr. Bauer is the 2002 valedictorian of New York Chiropractic College. He has been published in ‘Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise’ and has presented to the American College of Sports Medicine. During his postceptorship at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD he presented to the National Institute of Health and the U.S. Senate on the role of chiropractic in modern health care under the mentorship of Dr. William Morgan. He has been a rotating volunteer provider for Team USA since 2013 and has completed multiple rotations at all three Olympic training centers. Dr. Bauer worked extensively with the Women’s National hockey team prior to the Sochi Olympic Games and has been traveling internationally with USA Archery for World Cup competitions for the last three years. Dr. Bauer most recently supported Team USA at both the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Bauer was named the 2016 Sports Chiropractor of the Year award by the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. Dr. Kelly Shockley has been providing functional and sports medicine in Centennial, CO area since 2005. She has served as team doctor of a local private high school in her hometown and has set up several PPE programs as successful fundraisers for their corresponding sports programs. She has had involvement in several multidisciplinary medical teams serving sports ranging from rodeo, triathlon and marathon to pro level extreme sports. As an athlete herself, her passion has led her to the sport of ultramarathon. Above all else, she’s mom to a very active, athletic boy who keeps her on her toes.
