    Course Details:

    This one-hour presentation will include an introduction to diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging of the shoulder. There will be a brief discussion of the indications for a diagnostic ultrasound examination, a live demonstration of a shoulder ultrasound, and a brief presentation of interesting cases.

     

    Learning Objectives/Goals:

    -Become familiar with the indications for diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound of the shoulder.

    -Be aware of the basic components of a shoulder ultrasound examination.

    -Recognize some of the basic pathologies found in the shoulder during an ultrasound examination.

     

    Outline/Timeline:

    -Brief introduction to diagnostic ultrasound (15 minutes)

                    -How the modality works

                    -Indications for use

                    -Advantages and disadvantages of the modality

    -Live demonstration of a diagnostic shoulder ultrasound (30 minutes)

                    -Static evaluation of the biceps, subscapularis, supraspinatus, and infraspinatus tendons

                    -Dynamic evaluation for subcoracoid and subacromial impingement syndromes

    -Presentation of interesting shoulder ultrasound cases (15 minutes)
